2010 really has provided us with some outstanding and talented artists. My musical ears have been treated to a wealth of great tunes, some of which I've just 'stumbled' upon... unknown where or how.
One of those outstanding musical talents is Marina and the Diamonds.
Marina Lambrini Diamandis, aka Marina and the Diamonds, is a 24 year old Welsh singer (with Greek descent, in case you didn't get that in the surname).
According to Marina's MySpace page...
"I'm Marina, you are the diamonds..."...which refers to the fact that the Diamonds in her stage name are not in fact a band, but her fan base.
I came across Marina and the Diamonds via an iTunes free single of the week sometime earlier this year for her lead single, Hollywood, off her debut album, Family Jewels (out in Australia now). It's a cheeky song with great lyrics that you can't help but sing along to.
Next out rolls Oh No!, the second single off the album. The clip is fun, bright and easily grabs your attention (as does the song); however it's her latest video for Shampain that really grabs your attention. Marina looks stunningly beautiful with her mediterranean background, as she wakes up and struts along a street at night, with what looks like back-up dancers who took inspiration from Michael Jackson's Thriller video and Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video.
I've included the clip for Shampain below, but do yourself a favour and pop over to Marina's YouTube page (here) to watch all her videos. She is definitely a star in the making. Keep your eyes on this one.
I went and bought this album today after reading about it on the blog. $14.99 a JB Hifi, can't go wrong. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, it rocks! You should ask her to forward you the royalties from the sale.
ReplyDeleteGreat! It really is an awesome album, definitely a talented girl with not enough recognition.
