KATY PERRY PREPARES FOR GLOBAL CHART TAKE-OVER WITH NEW SINGLE "PART OF ME"

Last week Katy Pery premiered the first single to be lifted from her "Teenage Dream" re-release, "Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection", the Dr Luke and Max Martin produced "Part Of Me".

The single, which originally leaked in demo format back in 2010, was released to the general public after her great Grammys performance and has been atop the iTunes downloads charts since.

Today Billboard announced the track is likely to be the highest/fastest selling single since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" this time last year. The Billboard team are predicting that by week end sales "Part Of Me" will have shipped anywhere from 400,000 to 420,000 copies (in comparison to Gaga's 448,000).

Here in Australia the track debuted at #22 on the ARIA Singles Chart after only part-week sales, and has been sitting quite comfortably in the top three downloads on iTunes all week. Yet another smash hit from the never-ending "Teenage Dream" era, we think so.

LISTEN TO NEW MONICA AND BRANDY WITH "IT ALL BELONGS TO ME"

It's been a while since US singers Monica and Brandy took the world by storm with their R&B masterpiece that was "The Boy Is Mine" - fourteen years in fact. The track, which turned out to be one of the biggest selling singles of the decade, is easily one of the most recognised anthems of the '90s.

In addition, it's been a while since the girls made waves with any of their solo material. Whilst "The Boy Is Mine" LP produced three Billboard Hot 100 number one hits for Monica in 1998 ("The First Night", "Angel Of Mine" and the title track), she's only had one top ten hit since (2003's "So Gone" from her "After The Storm" album).

Brandy has shared a similar fate with "Never Say Never" producing two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits ("Have You Ever" and "The Boy...") and only one top ten hit four years later with "What About Us" (taken from "Full Moon").

So, you might assume that the girls are looking for a golden comeback with their latest collaboration of "It All Belongs To Me".

Rico Love, who produced track, has been quoted as saying "It’s a very soulful R&B song with pop sensibilities. I wanted to make sure I made it a classic R&B record, but I definitely wanted to make sure that it had enough appeal to cross over and become a Top 40 record."

LISTEN TO NEW NICKI MINAJ WITH "STARSHIPS"

After many a promo/buzz tracks ("Stupid Hoe", "Roman In Moscow", "Va Va Voom"), Trinidadian-American star Nicki Minaj has unveiled the lead single to be taken from her "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" LP, the euro-trash piece "Starships".

The track, produced by RedOne, Carl Falk (Darren Hayes, Nicole Scherzinger) and Rami Yacoub (One Direction, Britney Spears), is a far cry from Minaj's mixtape days of traditional hip-hop. The single sounds more like a pop-dance number than any of previous material, which we're sure will divide old school fans of the Barbie-like star.

MTV caught up with RedOne to talk through his working experience with Minaj: "Working with Nicki is amazing, 'cause she's so talented," he said. "There's nothing that inspires me more than raw, really good talent, big talent. I see that in Nicki, and of course, she's proven to be who she is. For me, [it was] a beautiful experience. There's a lot of love there. We respect each other a lot, and I think it's really key. We've done a few songs, and I think it's going to be very, very special. I'm excited."

MARINA & THE DIAMONDS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE "PRIMADONNA", NEW ALBUM "ELECTRA HEART"

The glamorous Marina & the Diamonds has announced via Twitter the release of her latest single "Primadonna", the lead track to be lifted from her highly-anticipated sophomore album release "Electra Heart". The single is due to hit the shelves from April 16.

In addition to the new single announcement, Marina has confirmed that the album will available from April 30. So far the confirmed tracks are:

-- Primadonna -- Bubblegum Bitch -- Lies, Power and Control -- Homewrecker -- Starring Role -- The State of Dreaming -- Living Dead -- Sex Yeah -- Valley of the Dolls -- Hypocrates -- Fear and Loathing --

Via the official press release Marina tells us "It’s an ode to dysfunctional love. I based the project around character types commonly found in love stories, film and theatre, usually ones associated with power and control in love, as opposed to weakness or defeat. I guess it was a way of dealing with the embarrassment that, for the first time in my life, I got ‘played’. Rejection is a universally embarrassing topic and Electra Heart is my response to that. It is a frank album.”

GOTYE TAKES THE WORLD BY STORM WITH "SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW"

Australia's own Wally De Backer, aka Gotye, is taking the world by storm with his ARIA winning, 8x platinum accredited, "Somebody That I Used To Know" featuring Kimbra.

The track, which was the highest selling single by an Australian artist in 2011, has gained more traction on this week's Billboard charts jumping up a further place to #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, last week in the UK the track ascended from number eight to the coveted top spot - making the UK the tenth country worldwide to do honour Triple J Hottest 100 2012 winner..

Meeting with MTV, Gotye talks about the outstanding pop track"Somebody That I Used to Know, like a lot of the record, was a bit of a struggle to finish. It was written fairly quickly — I wrote it in November 2010 — but it took six months to find Kimbra and really realize she was the right vocalist to make the female part come to life. There were constant hurdles."

Not to be complete with just having a hit single on his hands, "Making Mirrors", the album in which "Somebody That..." is taken from, has already reached the top twnety on the Billboard 200.

[VIDEO PREMIERE] MADONNA "GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN'' FEAT. NICKI MINAJ AND M.I.A.

After the leaks, the teasers and the torment; Madonna has finally premiered the video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" feat. Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

The clip, which holds a Superbowl theme with it's players and cheerleaders, sees Madge take a light-hearted approach to her profession. With it's sly digs and messages that clearly warn other pop-wannabes that she ain't losing her Pop Queen crown without a fight, Madonna manages to deliver one of the best videos we've seen in a long time.

This "MDNA" era, with it's production by William Orbit and Martin Solveig, could really be one of the best we've seen from the "W./E." director in a long time... and we're pretty excited about it.

[VIDEO PREMIERE] ADAM LAMBERT "BETTER THAN I KNOW MYSELF"

American singer-songwriter Adam Lambert has premiered the video for "Better Than I Know Myself", the lead single to be taken from the artists up-coming sophomore album "Trespassing".

The clip finds Lambert is a world where his 'good' self vs his 'bad' self fighting it out until one reigns supreme - quite a fitting clip for the Dr Luke/Cirkut/Ammo produced track. Who wins? Watch the video to find out.

COVER DRIVE CLAIM THE UK #1 WITH "TWILIGHT"

Four-piece Bajan group Cover Drive have scored themselves a number one hit in the UK this week with their single "Twilight".

The group; consisting of lead singer Amanda Reifer, T-Ray Armstrong, Barry 'Bar-Man' Hill, Jamar Harding; hit the coveted top spot knocking off Jessie J who spent two weeks at the summit with "Domino".

The track, produced by Quiz & Larossi (The Saturdays, Pussycat Dolls), follows on from the groups debut single "Lick Ya Down" which peaked just inside the top ten at number nine back in August.

Cover Drive's debut album is set to be released sometime in 2012. "Twlight" is available today (UK) [iTunes]

[VIDEO PREMIERE] REBECCA FERGUSON "TOO GOOD TO LOSE"

The gorgeous Rebecca Ferguson has premiered the video for "Too Good To Lose", the second single to be lifted from her debut LP "Heaven".

[VIDEO PREMIERE] DAVID GUETTA "TURN ME ON" FEAT. NICKI MINAJ

French DJ David Guetta has premiered the video for "Turn Me On" featuring Nicki Minaj, the fifth single to be lifted from his multi-platinum selling record "Nothing But The Beat" (sixth if you include "Sweat" with rapper Snoop Dogg).

The clip features Minaj as one of Guetta's creations (think Pinocchio to Geppetto, the monster with no name to Dr Frankenstein - you catch our drift); yet somewhat more beautiful than those created before. It's an interesting clip, and we must say, it's nice to see Minaj pull not so many faces for a change.
