ARIA, the Australian Recording Industry Association, have revealed their top 100 singles and albums for 2012. The charts, which we re released this morning, provide a list based on the total sales of singles and albums across Australia for the year.

We thought we'd take a look at what fabulous pop representation there was in the singles mix, to celebrate the year which was dominated by quite a lot of good music (and of course, some really bad music). But first, let's take a look at the top ten:

Coming in at #1 for the year we have Carly Rae Jepsen's smash "Call Me Maybe." The track, which achieved a 8x platinum-selling status (for over 560,000 copies sold) beat Psy's "Gangnam Style" to the summit. Coming in at #3 was the highest selling single by an Australian artist, Guy Sebastian, with his 7x platinum-selling single "Battle Scars" featuring Lupe Fiasco.

US rapper Flo Rida secured the next two spots with his hits "Whistle" and "Wild Ones," with Nicki Minaj's annoyingly-catchy "Starships" locked in at #6. Australia's Got Talent winners Justice Crew earned their stripes at #7 with "Boom Boom," and Birdy's surprise hit "Skinny Love," riding on the success of Bella Feraro's X Factor Australia performance, came in at #8.

Rounding off the top ten we have the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' hit "Thrift Shop" and Swedish House Mafia's send-off "Don't You Worry Child" at #9 and #10 respectively.

To take a look at the full chart, visit ARIA's official site.

The moving song features a video capturing those less fortunate around the globe. The message in the track is clear "Dear God, dear soul, dear Mary , Mohammed... can we just get along?" Quite timely based on current movements around the world today.

Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian has premiered his new single "Battle Scars," featuring Lupe Fiasco on guest vocals. The track is the third single to be taken from his upcoming studio album "Armageddon," out later this year.

The track see's Sebastian take a slightly more urban turn than "Don't Worry Be Happy" or "Gold" - but on saying that it's fresh, it has a great hook and plenty of commercial potential.

Australian singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian has revealed the second single to be lifted from his upcoming sixth studio album "Armageddon," the up-tempo Motown-inspired track "Gold."

For those of you that watch the Australian version of The Voice, you'll notice a familiar face in the video (below), it's contestant Carmen Smith. Smith has been singing back-up vocals for Sebastian for some time, so it's great to see her gain some spotlight - both in this clip and on The Voice!

Bursting onto the music scene can be difficult, especially when you share the surname of one of Australia's most successful pop artists of this generation. Chris Sebastian, brother of Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, knows just that.

After his famous brother went on to take the crown for the first series of the TV show, Chris was approached to audition. Wanting to find his own feet in the music industry, he declined. Chris then went on to work on his debut efforts, and here today we have the lead single off his debut album - F.L.O.W.

The single is a pop/R&B number with a very radio-friendly vibe. It's a little bit old school and a little bit cheese, but it works well and certainly shows off Sebastian's vocals talents. Inspired by artists such as Ne-Yo and Michael Jackson, Chris ignored the naysayers who told him that Australian R&B would never work. He’s stayed true to his family’s advice: “Do what you love.”

The track is promising and if local radio supports him, Sebastian could have a hit on his hands. I'm very interested in hearing what his album produces, so watch this space for more as it comes about.

Welcome, Chris Sebastian.

F.L.O.W. is available digitally today [ITUNES]
