Everyone in the Gaga world has been in nothing short of a frenzy over the last 24 hours as Lady Gaga previewed a new track from her new album Born This Way (out May 2010), titled Scheiße (German for shit - LOL - love you Gaga).

The remix features minimal vocals yet still has caused commotion like never seen before (ok, maybe seen when Kylie Minogue debuted with Locomotion in 1987 - same, same). Love the sound of the beats, but really, it doesn't give you much!

Medina. the Danish hottie that treated us all to You And I in 2010 (a massive club hit with remixes produced by Deadmau5, Kaskade, and Spencer & Hill just to name a few) has returned with another hot track, Addiction.

Taken from her first international release, Welcome to Medina, Addiction picks up where You And I left off - great beats, hot vocals, and a begging to be remixed by some of the great house DJs. The track went to #1 in her native Denmark, and has playing around various charts across Europe. Will it achieve the same club success as it's predecessor...? Maybe not, but it's certainly getting some spins at my place.

Enjoy.

Well, new-ish. 2Gether was originally released by Roger Sanchez almost a year ago. Of course the version then was an instrumental (sort of, dub mix maybe). Today, riding on the back of the success of their #1 US hit, Fly Like a G6, we add Far East Movement.

The track brings together the sexy house number we know from 2010, with the vocals of the Far East boys, to give us a new sound for the Summer airwaves. I've already heard it 'round the club scene, and I expect that to continue further. Additionally, with the vocals added it gives the track a better opportunity of being picked up by commercial radio... so let's see if that happens.

In case you haven't picked it (if you haven't you clearly need to climb out from what ever rock you've been hiding under for the last twenty years), the sample "we can get together" is taken from The B52's #1 hit, Love Shack!

Enjoy!

Yep, Britney's done it again. According to Billboard.com Britney Spears...
"...becomes just the second artist in the Billboard Hot 100's 52-year history to debut multiple songs at No. 1, as Hold It Against Me blasts in at the summit."
Britney now has four of her singles to debut at #1 - Baby One More Time (1999), Womanizer (2008), 3 (2009) and of course, Hold It Against Me. The only other artist to achieve this feat is Mariah Carey with her hits Fantasy (1995), One Sweet Day (1995) and Honey (1997).

Well done Brit!

Locally, Hold It Against Me debuted at #10 on the ARIA Singles Chart, with an expected jump into the top five this weekend. Will Brit achieve a #1 hit against in Australia...? - not at this stage, but let's see what happens when the video and a further EP is released.

God there are some good tunes out at the moment! Taken from Deadmau5's third studio album, 4x4=12, is the third single, Sofi Needs a Ladder. The track features Sofia Tofua (aka SOFI) on vocals.

It's a typical Deadmaus5 track, but that certainly doesn't mean it doesn't impress. After Animal Rights, which features Wolfgang Gartner, it's my choice as one of the strongest numbers off the album.

I think with the addition of SOFI it finishes the piece. In fact, it actually reminds me a little of last years smash - I Like It by Richard Vission feat. Static Revenger and Luciana. Big similarities in the girls vocals for sure.

No clip at this stage, nor am I expecting one - however listen to the track and share your thoughts? You like?

If you're a regular reader of my blog you'll know how much I adore Nadia Ali. The ex-iiO singer went solo a number of years back, releasing her debut album Embers in 2009. Embers is by far, one of my favourite albums of all time. Nadia's beautiful vocals weave in and out of electronic beats that make you yearn for love and want to groove all at the same time. Throw in the fact that she is a Middle-Eastern Goddess and BANG!

Ok, lost focus. Where was I?

Back to music. In 2010 Nadia set out to release three remix albums under the common title, Nadia Ali: Queens of Clubs, each with a different gemstone representing each version (first: Ruby, second: Onyx and third: Diamond). On the second album Nadia revisited a favourite number of mine, Rapture, originally performed as part of iiO in 2001 (my God - ten years ago!).

Rapture has been remixed by Avicii and is aptly titled Avicii's New Generation Mix. I love the fact it has "New Generation" in the title as it's totally true. We have a new generation of young party goers that get to embrace the warmth of Nadia's vocals on what is clearly one of the best and biggest club tracks of all time. Generation X clubbers finding dark corners at 5am with Nadia whispering "mi amore don't you know, my love I want you so..." Ahhh, to be young again.

NOT.

Rapture (Avicii's New Generation Mix) is starting to get club play in Australia, and I expect globally very, very soon. Listen out for this one - it's gonna be big!

So we know this isn't a new Martin Solveig track, in fact, Hello was released way back in September 2010 - but somehow, someway and for some reason, Australia has only started realising that this massive club smash is brilliant!

Featuring the vocals of Canadian singer Martina Sorbara (one half of Dragonette), Hello has been riding pretty at #1 on the ARIA Club Charts for a few weeks now. As of this week Singles Chart, it also appears just outside of the top 20. Over in the UK Hello reached the top 20; and in many countries across Europe and New Zealand, top 5.
The clip is great too - it features Martin and fellow Frenchie Bob Sinclar battle a tennis match out at Rolland Garros (the famous ground of the French Open).

For me, this track reminds me a lot (of the absolutely tiny bit) of Summer we had late December / early January... everywhere I went I seemed to hear this track blazing from some speaker box. Love, love, love it.

So, how about you? Love the track as much as I do? Share your thoughts!

Swedish cutie September returns with her next hit, Resuscitate Me. The track was released late 2010 in Europe, however no release date has yet been confirmed for Australia. Resuscitate Me will be taken off her forth studio album, Love CPR, to be released this year.

Last time September graced our airwaves was with her 2008 hit, Cry For You, which earned September her first top 20 hit in Australia. Cry For You was also a success across the UK, Europe and the US.

Resuscitate Me is a typical September song - easily lovable, with that distinct beat that echoes under her unique vocals. This number also features a nice piano backing... sounding oddly like When Love Takes Over (David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland). Hmmm.

True September lovers won't be disappointed, I'm not! Now - will someone hurry up and release it in Oz please!

Ok... so I might be a little late. Four weeks late in fact. Yes, the amazingly talented and beautiful Brooke Fraser premiered the video for the second release off her recent album Flags, on her website four weeks ago. So yes, a little late. Sue me.

Betty, the track in question, was co-written by Fraser and Switchfoot front man, Jon Foreman. It's another up-beat, catchy tune that radio stations *should* love. It easily gets stuck in your head, and is definitely one of the stronger tracks off her latest release.

The video clip features Brooke waltz through a field of flowers, surrounded by what can only be described as butterflies (or tiny birds, ummm, I'm not sure) made out of origami. It's very cute. Simple, I like it.

Something in the Water was a great choice for a first single and charted in the top 30 in Australia - let's see if Betty can do better.

PS: I'm going to see Brooke perform at the City Recital Hall in Sydney on Sunday 30th January - stay tuned for my update on how brilliant she was!

OMG

Really, I don't know why I'm surprised - it was only a matter of time before one of my favourite tracks OF ALL TIME was remixed by one of the current great DJs around the world.

Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, aka Everything But The Girl, from Hull, England; formed in 1982. They produced a number of singles and albums across the 80s and 90s; however it wasn't until Missing (taken from the 1994 Amplified Heart album), was remixed by New York's Todd Terry, did they start to make some noise globally.

Missing was a club smash EVERYWHERE. It peaked at #3 in the UK, #2 in Australia and the US... and out of their 31 single releases, is their most successful single to date.

Fast forward 15 years later (God - already? I am so old), enter Fedde Le Grand and wham! You have yourself a club hit all over again. The video below provides a sneak preview of the outcome - Tracey's beautiful vocals warming you up for a classic house number that you know you can't wait to groove to. All you have to do is watch the clubbers in the clip to know that when you hear this remix next time you're out, you're going to party like it's 1999. Well, maybe like it's 2011 instead.

I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this!

Ya-hoo! Finally, something from the real talent behind the Sugababes (ok, ok... Mutya has talent too - admittedly I love them both. Equal. Heidi who? Pft).

Ex-Sugababes hottie Keisha Buchanan's solo efforts have leaked! Posted on Keisha's Twitter account a few days ago [TWITTER]:
"Pretty bummed about my track being leaked, But the response has been amazing!! Thanks so much. Even better 2 come:-) Album almost finished X"
Bummed? Nooooo, she shouldn't be - the track has sent the geeks, homos and the REAL Sugababe lovers in a frenzy!*

*according to me, that is.

Under Control is the track that we're talking about. It's rumoured to be the debut single from Miss Kay's solo album due out this year. I say rumoured though, as last year we were treated to another leaked track called Fearless, but nothing came of it. Here's hoping this one's for real - Under Control has had a hell of a lot of spins on my iTunes since I located it on the web! HAWT!!!

So - what's your thoughts? Are ya a luva or a hater?

Ex-Pussycat Doll babe, Nicole Scherzinger, may have herself a solo hit yet. Whilst Miss Scherz released Poison late last year, well, it kinda hasn't really set the world on fire. Well, not mine anyway... and nor the general public that spend money buying music either. Poison peaked at #3 in the UK - which is a great achievement - but that's about it. Globally. Hmmm.

Let's move forward to 2011 (Poison was sooooo 2010 anyway). Don't Hold Your Breath is (rumoured to be) Nicole's second single to be lifted off her yet-to-titled debut album. We've had a number of versions of the track circle the 'net... instrumental demos, demos with vocals not Nicole's, demos with vocals that are Nicole's but are pre-polishing... and of course, the demo sung by Keri Hilson and Timbaland some time ago.

But alas! Here I have Nicole's version, all polished up like a dirty school floor boards by cheeky kids in after-school detention because they were caught behind the library smoking. Or having sex. One or the other.
I digress.

Don't Hold Your Breath, produced by Dave Aude, is by far a greater pop song than Poison. It's catchy, easy to sing-a-long to (gee, like that's a necessity... bloody Bieber lovers...) and has a lot of potential - if of course it's marketed right and bloody radio / TV stations pick it up. Globally.

Why do I feel like I'm back at square one?

Anywho. Take a listen below and share your thoughts. Me? I love it!

"This shit is bananas - B A N A N A S!"

Brilliant. This morning whilst waiting for my chai latte (gay), MTV played a subtle reminder of how awesome Gwen Stefani's 2005 release, Love. Angel. Music. Baby, was. Hollaback Girl was the third single to be lifted off Gwen's debut album, co-penned by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (together, both boys forming N.E.R.D).

Hollaback Girl gave Gwen her one and only #1 US single (her second in Australia, following her debut single What You Waiting For?), and went top 10 in over 15 countries worldwide.

The video below is a clean version unfortunately, with Gwen "ssshhhh"- ing her "shit" - rude and boring. I do love a bit of coarse language on a Friday morning. Bloody Americans and their ban on explicit material. Bah.

Anywho - great track, and certainly a good one to start the beginning of the weekend! Woo hoo.

PART III, THE FINALE

And so, here it is - the Top 10 Singles as assessed by me; the music-driven, ass-swinging, blog-loving Jimmy Steele. Can I tell you how hard it was to get this list to a Top 50, let alone a Top 10? 2010 was truly blessed with so many tracks that really outshone previous years in regards to music. Pure quality I tell you, pure quality.

There have been a few key standout artists this year too... but I think that's anotehr blog post entirely - let's get into the countdown!

10.  NOT GIVING UP ON LOVE  //  Arvin van Buuren vs Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Miss Ellis-Bextor teamed up with our favourite Aussie models/DJs, Nervo, to pen this brilliant track, which also includes the girls on backing vocals. Yet again, do my Nervo girls deliver!

Not Giving Up On Love was released as the lead single off Armin's 2010 album, Mirage, and will also feature on Sophie's fourth studio album, Make a Scene, which will be released in this coming April. Armin debuted the track in his A State of Trance podcast in August.

Whilst the single didn't fair that well chart wise (excluding Poland where it went to #1 - random); it certainly made a presence on the club scene globally.

Miss Ellis-Bextor, with her sassy vocals and classy style, oozes sex 'n' love in this video. Also, she kinda makes me jealous lounging on that boat in the video clip (grrr), which was shot in Ibiza, Spain (double-grrr).

9.  EMPIRE STATE OF MIND  //  Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys

Some of you may argue that this track really should have been featured as a 'best of 2009' - well... bite me.

The ode to one of America's most well-known cities is really, one of the stand-out tracks of this decade. Alicia Keys belting out...
"New Yoooooooork...concrete jungle where dreams are made of... there's nothing you can't do..."
...sends chills down my spine and makes me wanna grab that credit card and book my one-way flight now.

Alicia and I had a good year in 2010 actually - this is her third appearance in the countdown (with tracks Un-Thinkable and Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart making earlier appearances)... I gotta say, her Elements of Freedom album clearly was one of the best albums of the year.

8.  BELIEVER  //  Freemasons feat. Wynter Gordon

Oh bless. What an amazing combo - the boys from Brighton, England; and New York's princess, Wynter Gordon. I'm not really sure what else to say here except for...

Get your ass into gear and start grooving!

Believer was released earlier in the year to the UK/Australia markets, however only in the last month has it been released in the US. A huge club smash in the UK and Europe over summer, I'm expecting it to do the same over the US in the coming weeks/months.

Also, this is Wynter's second appearance today with Dirty Talk coming in at #26... oh how we love Miss Gordon!!!

7.  SHAMPAIN  //  Marina & the Diamonds

Welsh/Greek Goddess,  Marina Lambrini Diamandis, or as you may know her, Marina & the Diamonds; is clearly one of 2010's precious gems.

Her debut album, The Family Jewels, is a piece of pure indie pop heaven... really, it's hard to fault any of the tracks on the album. So much so, this is Marina's third appearance in my Top 50 of 2010 (Hollywood at #19, Oh No! at #32)!

I was lucky enough to see Marina perform just recently in Sydney in a show performing at The Factory Theatre. Her performance - vocally and stage-presence wise - was really hard to beat. It was hard not to be captivated by her aura on stage... one word to describe the night - WOW.

The Shampain video, with it's Thriller-like choreography, wind machine blowing leaves and overall beauty of Miss Diamandis, clearly is one of the best clips of 2010.

6.  ACAPELLA  // Kelis

Acapella was Kelis' opportunity to embrace a market in which we knew she'd reign - and boy did she do that. The lead track from her fifth studio album, Flesh Tone, was co-penned by Kelis and produced by David Guetta; and paved way for what was received as one of the best albums of 2010.*

*according to me of course

The colourful and energetic video was a collaboration between fashion photographer John "Rankin" Waddell (Germany's Next Top Model photographer), and director Chris Cottam. It's vibrant, effective and provides the buzz that the track needs - a great, great film clip.

In addition to Acapella, the album spawned three other singles - 4th of July (Fireworks), Scream and Brave.

5.  HANG WITH ME  //  Robyn

So here we have Robyn, her second appearance in my countdown (no surprise there) with Hang With Me. In 2010 Robyn released three EPs, titled the Body Talk series. All three were released within a six month period, with Hang With Me featuring on the first and second editions.

On the first edition Hang With Me is a slow, soulful acoustic ballad. A beautiful number really... however it wasn't until it got a little bit of treatment and appeared on the second edition did it really hit the mark. The single gave Robyn her fifth top five number in her native Sweden... hmmm, what was her forth...? Stay tuned!

4.  TELEPHONE  //  Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce

The second track to be lifted off Gaga's infamous The Fame Monster EP, Telephone is pure pop brilliance. Originally written by Lady Gaga for none other than Miss Britney Spears (for her Circus album), once rejected, Gaga decided to own the track and pursue Beyonce for the additional part. Great move girl.

Telephone featured one of the most anticipated video clips of all time. The video, shot by the creative genius that is Jonas Åkerlund (who directed Gaga's Paparazzi), featured Lady Gaga and Beyonce in a range of designer outfits that played out in a number of different scenes.

The video, available in 'clean' and 'explicit' versions, is just over nine minutes and thirty seconds in length, and as of today, has had more than 100,000,000 views on YouTube. Un-fucking-believable!

3.  GET OUTTA MY WAY  //  Kylie Minogue

What has been claimed by critics* as Kylie's best track in years, Get Outta My Way was a clear reminder that Miss Minogue still has it. Oh yes she does. Whether it's the video with those gold shoes, the striking poses or the brilliant chair choreography - she still has it.

*those critics being me and a whole lotta gay men globally

The second single off the Aphrodite album (clearly a life saving album, thank you Stuart Price), unfortunately didn't receive the chart success it deserved, however it still is, without a doubt, one of Kylie's best songs EVAH (big call, I know).

2.  FREEFALLIN'  //  Zoe Badwi

Ex-Siren (remember those girls - come on, think about it... Sarah-Marie from Australia's Big Brother... I'm So Excited... Oh God, yes, that was Zoe Badwi) has been around the Aussie club scene for some time now. She's partnered with TV Rock and delivered In The Moment and Release Me over the last couple of years - clear club numbers that everyone loves.

Move forward to 2010, grab yourself an Amy Pearson penned track, Denzal Park on production and BANG - you have yourself a surefire hit. Freefallin' is nothing but brilliant... picture it now... gay men throwing their hands up in the air like they just dont' care. Oh bless. Cause I'm freeeeeeeeeefalllin...

LOVE IT.

1.  DANCING ON MY OWN  //  Robyn

Here it is!!! My #1 Single of 2010!!!

Dancing On My Own was unveiled to the world in June - the synth love ballad, with Robyn's unique vocals oozing heartache and betrayal, instantly won me over the moment I heard it. And, funnily enough, I wasn't alone worldwide.

The track went to #1 in Sweden - Robyn's first ever hit to the top in her homeland. Additionally, it achieved top ten in many countries across Europe, including the UK. It was the lead track off the three-part Body Talk series and certainly gave us a great taste of the excellence that was yet to come from the following EPs.

The video, with Robyn's awkward yet mesmerising moves, is a reminder of what it feels like when a love is not reciprocated. Painful, beautiful, indulging.

Robyn - you really are a talented artist. Much love.

PART II - TBC

Just thought I'd, you know, randomly check out the iTunes Australia download charts... and low and behold, guess who I just happened to see as the top three singles currently being downloaded by my fellow Aussies...?

Could a gay man be any happier?
THINK NOT.

I think I just died and went to gay-pop-heaven. My girls are rockin' this place!

Well, on the radio edit he is. On the not-so-G-rated edit, well..., it sounds a little different. On that version Enrique is, well..., fucking you. Apparently, Enrique Iglesias was desperate to get on the Cee Lo Green and P!nk "Fuck" Wagon that we have two versions of his latest smash available.

Tonight (I'm Loving You) and Tonight (I'm Fucking You) were both released digitally last week in Australia, and the track(s) have made a record smash on the recent ARIA Singles Chart debuting at #3 this week. The "fucking" track was featured on a deluxe limited edition of Enrique's Euphoria album, released in France in December... so expect to see a similar type of release here in Australia in the coming months.

So why am I blogging about Enrique Iglesias? Well, the video. I've just come across this and I have to say I'll be surprised if it makes it to Video Hits (ha!) on a Saturday morning. Whilst there's no "fucking" in it, there's lots of "fucking" in it. Very raunchy... and really, that's probably the only reason why it made it onto this blog.

Come now, tell me you didn't think I was that pure? Enjoy my dear friends.

This year has certainly started off with a bang in hot new music. Well, new for our part of the world, but not necessarily for the rest! Of course right now I'm talking about 18 year old Alexis Jordan.

Alexis hails from South Carolina in the US, and came to the US screens originally in 2006 in their first season of America's Got Talent. Whilst Alexis was knocked out in the semi-finals, it didn't stop her from persuing her dream of becoming a pop sensation.

Fast track to 2010 and Jay-Z's record label ROC Nation have snatched this young startlet up and her debut single, Happiness, is released to the US market. Whilst it faired well on the Billboard club and dance charts, it wasn't until the track was released internationally did it start to make waves. It recently peaked at #3 on the UK Charts, and as we speak, it currently sits in the top 5 downloaded tracks in the Australian iTunes (it bulleted up to #13 on the official ARIA Singles Chart this week).

Yes, we may be a little behind on ensuring that Alexis is a success, but if you ask me I think you'll be hearing a lot of this track over the coming Summer weeks ahead (if you haven't been already!).

For all those Deadmau5 lovers out there, you'll recognise the track in the background - yes, those are Alexis' vocals, but that tune is distinctively the Deadmau5 track Brazil. Funnilty enough, it was also used in a track called Change Your Mind by Kylie Minogue last year, but that (unfortuantely) didn't make the final cut for Aphrodite. Check it out on myprevious blog entry. [BLOG/VIDEO]

AND, to top it all off - the track listing for Alexis' self-titled album, which will be released in the UK on the 28th February, was just released via Alexis' Twitter account. Stay tuned for the Australian release date. [TWITTER]

For now, enjoy the video! Much love.
