After what seems like an eternity, I'm back from our whirlwind trip across the globe. And I mean,
across the globe. In our travels we covered San Francisco, New York, London, Barcelona, Paris and finally, the champagne area of France (Epernay and Reims). Talk about venturing to some of the most amazing places in the world! Of course I could sit here and blog about our adventures all day... however if I did that I wouldn't have time for what you're really here for - and that is - music.
There are quite a few tracks that come to mind from our journey, however I'll mention just three that really stick in my mind (all from the European leg). Firstly, it would be
Simple Plan's latest track,
Jet Lag (fitting really). The Canadian pop/punk/rock group will release their fourth studio album in the coming months, and off that features this new single.
Now whilst the Australian and US markets are enjoying the track which features New Zealand born, UK resident
Natasha Bedingfield; the Canadian and European markets have the pleasure of listening to a French-English version which features Canadian pop/rock artist
Marie-Mai.
Of course I'd heard the Bedingfield version prior to taking our trip, however my love really falls for the Marie-Mai version. Her gorgeous voice with those French lyrics really compliments the track. It's a very catchy tune and one that we found ourselves singing and car-dancing to as we drove across the French countryside.
I've included the video for Marie-Mai's version. You can watch/listen to Bedingfield's version here

Another track that caught my attention was a song released almost a year ago by Dutch singer/songwriter
Loona. You may remember her from her collaboration with
DJ Sammy on his massive club/chart
hit The Boys of Summer in 2002.
The track is titled
Vamos a la Playa (Spanish for
Let's Go To The Beach). It's really nothing but pure pop trash, but after spending time in Barcelona and hearing it there - it was kinda fitting. Think a trashier version of
Cascada and you have it.
Will it be a global success like The Boys of Summer? Ah, no. It's fun all the same.
And the final track I'll bring to your attention is by French pop singer/songwriter
M Pokora, with his latest single -
A Nos Actes Manqués (French for
To All Our Mistakes). It's catchy, he's cute, and it kinda sounds like "I'll rape the monkey" in the chorus. Hmmm. It was definitely a crowd pleaser when you're screaming out "I'll rape the monkey" as you drive around Paris!
So there you go. Three tracks that will definitely stick in my mind and remind me of how absolutely-frickin'-awesome my race around the world was. Now, time to catch up on what's been happening in the music world... and boy, there seems to be a lot!
Dedicated to the love of my life, you know who you are x
