Just recently I've stumbled across a very talented artist, UK singer-songwriter Florence Arnold, aka Florrie.

22 year-old Florrie released her first EP Introduction late last year, with her second EP Experiments only last month. The singles Give Me Your Love [LISTEN] and Begging Me [LISTEN] have been released from the EPs respectively.

Whilst both tracks are good, in that indie-pop-Sia kinda way, it's a number from the Experiements EP that has really grabbed my attention - the track I Took A Little Something.

I Took A Little Something, produced by the team from Xenomania, sounds like the song Girls Aloud wish they recorded. Throw in some remixes by Fred Falke and Loverush UK! and everyone is dancin'.

HOOKED. A must for any collection this year.

What's even juicier is, if you head over to Florrie's official website you can download a stack of free mixes of various tracks!

Rihanna appears in the September issue of Glamour magazine, including the cover. The gorgeous Barbadian singer talks about music, sex, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and, her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.

Rihanna on hating drama… and perfection…
“I hate drama. But at the same time, nothing bothers me more than when life’s perfect. And that’s the sick part. I just love a challenge, whether it’s a relationship, my career, clothing…”

Rihanna on being a role model for young girls…
“In the beginning of my career, it was really strict for me. I couldn’t wear pink or red lipstick; it was just bizarre. We had a young fan base, and they were trying to keep me fresh. But I just really wanted to be myself. I wanted to be sassy, the attitude, all these things that I am.”

Rihanna on her fellow female musicians…
“There’s a pack. It’s me, Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé… who else? Ke$ha, for sure. Women are definitely dominating music right now, and that’s because we are competitive beings. I feel like music hasn’t been this exciting in a while.”

Last night we were more than fortunate to catch Australia's dance diva Zoë Badwi perform a selection of tracks from her new album, Zoë, at Slide Nightclub.

Zoë was sensational as she pleased the crowd with her hits Freefallin', Release Me and an acoustic version of Accidents Happen. Not letting the audience forget they were there for the release of her new album she teased the gay boys and girls alike with the album track Believe You, a cover of Estelle's American Boy and the future club-stomping hit Until You're Over Me.

For the complete tracklist for Zoë see my previous blog entry.

Not content with leaving the audience with just that performance, Zoë announced that a tour will follow after the album release - and so today, I bring you the tour details!

Zoë will visit metropolitan and regional areas across Australia across the months of August through October. More dates and details to come, however you can keep up to date via Zoë's Facebook page or through 360 Agency.

Pre-order Zoë today, to be released 5 August [ITUNES]

Who said that Australia is a little behind? Danish singer/songwriter Oh Land (aka Nanna Øland Fabricius) finally gets a local release with her first international single, Sun of a Gun. The track is the lead from her self-titled, second studio album.

The single, co-written by Oh Land and Jimmy Harry, was originally released in the US and European markets in March. If you haven't listened to the track it's an electro-pop gem. Think Zowie, Kimbra or even a happier Robyn.

Take a listen to the track below - what's your thoughts? If you like what you hear, check out the second single to be taken from the album, Rainbow [VIDEO]

Bursting onto the music scene can be difficult, especially when you share the surname of one of Australia's most successful pop artists of this generation. Chris Sebastian, brother of Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, knows just that.

After his famous brother went on to take the crown for the first series of the TV show, Chris was approached to audition. Wanting to find his own feet in the music industry, he declined. Chris then went on to work on his debut efforts, and here today we have the lead single off his debut album - F.L.O.W.

The single is a pop/R&B number with a very radio-friendly vibe. It's a little bit old school and a little bit cheese, but it works well and certainly shows off Sebastian's vocals talents. Inspired by artists such as Ne-Yo and Michael Jackson, Chris ignored the naysayers who told him that Australian R&B would never work. He’s stayed true to his family’s advice: “Do what you love.”

The track is promising and if local radio supports him, Sebastian could have a hit on his hands. I'm very interested in hearing what his album produces, so watch this space for more as it comes about.

Welcome, Chris Sebastian.

It was almost 3am AEST when the news broke.

The flash of late night conversations, moving bodies on a dance floor, and the push 'n' shove of a full club are blurry images in my mind. Trying to focus on Twitter messages in the back of a taxi cab after too many vodka tonics is a tricky thing.  It's worse when you're reading messages about something that silences you and sends chills throughout your body.

At first it was rumours, gossip and whispers. Then followed tweets from fellow musicians, friends, and bloggers. Frantically I'm trying to search Google for a confirmation, a credible source of information that would indeed support the influx of messages on my screen.

And then, tt was like the black plague taking over, consuming every message with the words "RIP Amy Winehouse".

I suppose I shouldn't seem surprised really. We all know Winehouse lived a destructive life, or so the media would lead us to believe. The late boozey nights, slurred performances, drug addictions and violent sessions attracted the tabloids like candy to a child. Some people say she was lucky to have lived for as long as she did, even though she was only 27.

If you ask me underneath the tattoos, beehive and the drama, Amy Winehouse was a nothing but a gift. A gift of pure talent to the musical world.

I must admit, it wasn't until I'd first heard Rehab that I was a fan. I'd been told about her debut album Frank many years before, but failed to give it a listen. Rehab first arrived in the (Australian) spring of '06 - a time in which I, along with many of my mates, were preparing for a scorching Australian summer ahead. Rehab, a Mark Ronson production like most from the Back to Black album, was an instantly likable hit. The volume of cheek that Winehouse crooned over seemed to be that of a laugh, yet she still sung with nothing with emotion.

The album release followed soon after and out poured the hits - You Know That I'm No Good, Tears Dry On Their Own, Love Is A Losing Game and of course, the title track. Following on from the hits, came the awards. The BRIT Awards, Ivor Novello Awards, MTV Awards, and the staggering five (out of six nominations) Grammy Awards. Amy Winehouse was unstoppable.

But of course with the additional fame came the additional attention. Paprazzi, tabloids, rumours, gossip... all fueled by Winehouse's continued time in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Their has been comparisons of Amy's short life to those of fellow musicians such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison (of The Doors) - all whom have passed away at the young age of 27. Whilst all passing away as musical greats way too soon, the commonality for me is not their age, but the fact that drugs all played an unfortunate but significant part in their life.

Even as I write this I'm still saddened and somewhat shocked she's gone. There was always a glimmer of hope that she would return to the studio and belt out another ground-breaking album like Back in Black. I can imagine her laughing, cigarette in hand, telling Ronson to 'fuck 'imself' in that cockney accent as they produce another masterpiece for us to swoon over all summer. Now I guess, that's not gonna happen.

So today, again, like my friends over at Popjustice and The Middle Eight, I'm going to spend my day listening to one of our generations greatest musical gifts. The true, pure, beautiful soul that was Amy Winehouse. I hope now that she Rest in Peace.

Hot on the heels of the double-platinum selling single Own This Club, Marvin Priest unleashes his next smash hit - collaborating with Australia's adopted disco-diva Wynter Gordon in the track Take Me Away.

The Cassie Davis penned R&B/dance number features a similar melody to that of it's predecessor, with Gordon's added vocals across the chorus. Judging by how much Australia loves both of these pop superstars, I'm expecting another top ten smash.

Take a listen to the track below, and stay tuned for the video which is expected in a couple of weeks (which is where the above video still is from).

Full of power and beauty, Beyoncé covers the August/September edition of Complex magazine. As part of the cover story Queen B shares some insights on her world...

On wanting to bring back “old school” R&B with her new music:
“Figuring out a way to get R&B back on the radio is challenging. Everything sounds the same on the radio. With 4 I tried to mix R&B from the ’70s and the ’90s with rock ‘n’ roll and a lot of horns to create something new and exciting. I wanted musical changes, bridges, vibrata, live instrumentation, and classic songwriting.”

On being married to a rap genius:
“Jay’s music is more than music. His lyrics have fathered generations. All that he has overcome gives millions so much hope. There are moments when I see his lips moving and I can see lyrics floating above his head and I think, ‘Wow! How did I get so lucky to be able to witness this level of genius so closely?’”

On her legacy:

“I just want my legacy to be great music. Someone who was a risk taker and someone who had songs that struck conversation and emotion.”
You can read the interview and see all the shots at Complex online. Additionally, check out the behind the scenes footage of the shoot below.

Colombian superstar Shakira followed up on her smash hit Loca (English: Crazy) with the second official single to be lifted from her Spanish language album Sale el Sol (English: The Sun Comes Out), the track Rabiosa (English: Rabid).

The track featured in two versions - one in Spanish with Dominican rapper El Cata, the other in English with Cuban-American rapper Pitbull. Charting quite well, Rabiosa hit the coveted #1 position in Spain, and the top ten in many other countries across Europe.

Adding a little sexiness and hip-shaking territory are the team from Club Junkies. Similar to what the Freemasons did with Loca, the guys have brought the bass and ramped up the club potential for the track. I love what they've done with the track, and so it features as this week's [REMIXED] number. Enjoy.

Following on from the break-up of her marriage to Marc Anthony, it seems Jennifer Lopez is looking for a new man, her Papi maybe?

The very talented J Lo has confirmed the release of Papi, the one-time-promotional track, as the third single off her Love? album.

Whilst I'm Into You (featuring Lil' Wayne) failed to impact the global charts strongly, On The Floor (featuring Pitbull) is still reigning supreme. Could Papi inject some new life back into the Love? campaign for the newly-single mother of two?

Australian singer/songwriter Vanessa Amorosi has released the video to her new single, Gossip. The track is the first to be lifted from her fifth studio album, V.

Amorosi tells Queensland newspaper the Courier Mail about the track, highlighting how girls gossip in toilets at nightclubs about what is going on outside with websites like Facebook.
“These days people are no longer giving out their phone numbers, they are giving their Facebook names’’
Well honey, of course they are. The question is, why aren't they gossiping about the track Gossip? Since it's release almost three weeks ago the single has failed to make an impacts of the local charts. Could it be that the only things girls are not gossiping about is Gossip?

Winner of the 2006 X Factor series in the UK, Leona Lewis, has premiered her new single on BBC Radio 1, a track titled Collide.

The number, written by Sandy Vee and Autumn Rowe, showcases Lewis' unique vocal talents but displays a fresher side to her pop career as she moves away from the heart-broken ballads we've heard her do so well. The single samples Swedish DJ Avicii's track, Penguin [LISTEN]

Without releasing too many details behind the much anticipated third studio album from the English beauty, it has been confirmed that Lewis has worked with the likes of Ne-Yo, Claude Kelly and Ryan Tedder (of OneRepublic) for the release. Following on from the single release of Rock Me in June, Melanie C drops her latest single continuing down the pop/dance path, Think About It.

Taken from he new album The Sea, which is due to hit stores in September, this will be Mel C's first studio album since 2007's This Time. Talking about the album in a recent interview posted on her YouTube channel, she talks about the upcoming album:
"I'm very excited about the record because, it's quite diverse in styles. I've worked with lots of new writers, people I haven't worked with before. There's still very much a pop element, and I've got some lovely ballads, some rock inspired tracks, some more dancey stuff, some acoustic stuff, and production wise there are some very atmospheric moments. So I really think it's going to be a diverse and stronger album."
I can't wait for this album - Never Be The Same Again (featuring Lisa Lopes) and I Turn To You are absolute classics... let's hope we see some similar productions on this release.

Think About It will be released in August, however Rock Me is available digitally today. EDIT: Think About It will be released in Australia on 4 September, with a pre-order available now [ITUNES]
